Goth theme party- what should I wear?

Well my friend is a goth kid and he invited me to a goth party, so I dont wanna be the only one wearing not depressing colors, also I need to know a bit about the style (clothing, make-up, accessories etc)

I'm a 18 years old guy, I have short black hair

All I got is this 3/4 black leather coat I bought like a year ago

I'm guessing you're not comfortable with the full blown goth look and don't want to step out and have everyone brand you a goth right away. There are some things you can wear that'll look goth but in a subtle way:

Jacket/coat - Velvet, leather or denim are probably the most suitable. Trench coats seem to be the classic goth wear but short jackets (like blazers) are good if you don't want to wear those.

Make up - You may not like the full blown goth look and might want to stay subtle, so just leave your face.

Shirt/top - Shirts that are black will be suitable, or if you want contrast then white. Pinstripes are fine for the goth look to break up the plain colours. Any type of top will do, obviously in dark colours.

Trousers - Anything, again in black. The goth look sometimes contains elements that are slightly effeminate so close fitting trousers won't look out of place. Leave the skirt unless you really want to.

Shoes - If you want to go grunge then the big black boots from hot topic or hellfire are just the thing. Personally I think they're too much and you'll be instantly branded goth as soon as you step onto the street. Plainer tall black boots are still acceptable though and would look especially awesome with a long coat. Boots that are pointed with low heels (a bit like Beatles boots) are still not out of fashion and would look great. Heels for men are more acceptable now, besides a little effeminism is part of the goth style.

Jewellery - Just like the big spiky chain covered boots, the hellfire and hot topic jewellery may be a bit much for anyone not accustomed to wearing goth. If you want, then stick with silver or pewter. Simple rings with some markings and decoration are ok but don't wear them on every finger, a couple will do.

Hair - Hair doesn't have to be long for the goth look, short hair is fine and doesn't have to be black either. The styling is up to you and will depend on your age, preference etc.

Hands - Black gloves are ok but again keep it looking stylish and not extreme. Black nail polish is a staplle goth thing. Just take your time and apply it carefully and use several coats for an even finish. No one likes nail polish that's been rushed and looks chipped and smudged. Add in glue on fake nails if you want longer talons. Again gothic is slightly effemininate.

Darken your eyebrows black and put black around your eyes and wear silver piercings, a black leather silver studded dog collar a tight jet black t-shirt and baggy black pants with silver zippers and a black leather silver studded belt with black converse sneakers. You'll fit right in. Oh, and don't forget to sipke your hair.

Just wear bubble wrap and say you are going, "Fetish."

Spike or hawk your hair

if the weather is right wear your coat, if it's not, don't bother with it. There's nothing sadder than a sweaty goth kid. ;)

There are tons of different pants to choose from, i wouldn't recommend khakis or blue jeans though..

Shoes can be black or wear boots

You don't have to go full out goth make-up, especially if it isn't something you usually do, otherwise you will fuss with it all night and feel uncomfortable. You can just slap on a little eyeliner just around the edges of your eyes.

Seriously, anything can go if you do it right.. It doesn't have to be all depressing colors, and you DO NOT have to limit yourself to just black. Just use your imagination and infuse a little goth into your attire. Try to stay true to your own personal style.
