Clothing/fashion help?

what advice would you give to a 13 years old girl who usually wears jeans, t-shirts and sneakers - shorts and sandals in summer if she wants to be able to wear cute clothes too? she doesn't know which clothes are cute and what clothes or colors go together. shes not the girly type either and dislikes make-up except for lipgloss and eyeshadow. she have black hair that she wears in a ponytail most of the time - the people who saw her with her hair down said she looked good with it down. she have dark brown eyes, light tan skin and natural redish-pinkish lips. wears reading glasses, have a few pimples. thinks she doesn't look good with boots, ballet flats or skirts. doesn't know what cute clothing/accessories mean [you can ask her whether a boot is cute or not and she'd say "I don't know."] or if you tell her a shirt or skirt or something is cute, she doesn't get what's cute about it. you can probably tell already that she's not the girly kind. any advice or clothes suggestions?

accessorize!

Who cares if you dont brand clothing.

You can own plain shirts, but its all about the accessories!

Buy awesome unique earrings, necklaces, belts, shoes ect

She should consider shopping at Target or even Wal-Mart (which sometimes has some very cute things).

why is this written in third person?

go check out j.crew and ralph lauren.

the clothes there aren't overly girly,

but you look effortlessly put together.

if you don't think you look your best in ballet flats,

then opt for keds.

but truthfully,

who doesn't look good in ballet flats?

:)

Maybe try layered shirts. Personally i am into graphic tee's and get compliments all the time. For shoes try flats, they are totally comfortable and don't feel much different then tennis shoes. Anything looks good with jeans. If you wear black jeans/pants, try coral's and reds. You could even were button down shirts with a simple tee underneath, my personal favorite sites for clothes are listed below. Hope i could help!

I went through the same problem, but it doesn't take long to break!

Instead of wearing plain t-shirts, she could just wear t-shirts with more graphics and prints.

Try layering those with cute matching tanks.

Wet Seal has cute ones, and so does Forever 21.

Both are very affordable.

Stick with jeans though, you can't go wrong with jeans.

Maybe try very comfortable flats, she'll feel like she's still wearing sneakers, except way cuter.

Payless has very classy and afforable flats.

As for the hair, she should just wear it down as often as she is comfortable with it that way.

Let her do her make minimalist.

It'll look better that way, and she's only thirteen.

Lipgloss and eye shadow seem appropriate.

Or just let her decide what she wants.

Try shopping at Steve %26amp;Barry's. They have some cute stuff, and Amanda Bynes' and Sarah Jessica Parker's lines there don't have anything over $20. I would tell her to give flats a try (they look good on everyone, she doesn't know what she's talking about) Also, tell her to try to invest in some funky jewelry, like a bright chunky necklace. I have this big red coral-shaped necklace that instantly brings life to a plain white t-shirt, old jeans, and some animal print ballet flats.

A good rule of thumb is to buy classics that won't go out of style for her main clothes, and funky accessories that bring life to the outfits so she can mix it up and not look like she only has a few outfits. Also to buy a lot of neutrals (this does not have to be browns -- a nice navy goes with everything.) Good luck!

black, denim, beige, white...anything goes with it. cute shoes are sneakers, and Vans. Try wearing accessories like hoop earrings, belts at the waist, a regular belt, layered necklace, bangles and cuffs, headbands, leggings, tights, watches, charm bracelets, jewelry with your name on it, lip gloss. you can also give yourself a manicure and use rings. Hoodys, tunics, baby doll tops, skinny jeans, are good to wear. just make sure the bottom has a darker color than the top...or the opposite. you can wear chains on your pants or buy a chain around your neck. For cold weather...buy a cute scarf and hat...with North Face coat. Or try baseball caps turned in different ways. wear a ponytail over your shoulder and add a flower, or make your hair curly at the ends and wear it up or a bun.

She can wear t-shirts with graphics on them - ex. solid black shirt with metallic print; boot-cut jeans (light washes are fine for younger ages, but if she doesn't want to appear too "girly-girl", go with darker washes), not flare because, again, that may seem girly to her. As for shoes, she could try skate shoes (such as the ones Vans, or Adidas makes), which are a little chunkier, or more streamlined running shoes (like Puma makes). For the more budget-friendly styles, look at Payless shoes. Don't know where you're writing from, but if you're in Canada, Bluenotes has pretty cheap clothes that still look very nice. As for accessorizing, go with simple pieces that will match anything - ex. a solid coloured belt, plain bangles/earrings, single-coloured necklaces (don't have a bunch of different coloured jewels from a single chain. A plain silver one will do.) Hope that helps.
