Does Hollywood/Los Angeles, and America place unrealistic standards on beauty and age?

I mean, especially in LA. If you're from let's say anywhere outside of the country or inland, and u go there, if you were considered beautiful back home, you may be a dime a dozen in LA or even NY.

In these cities, I think that the new norm for beauty is plastic, fake, anorexic, and strange looking clothes.

It's not enough to look naturally good looking. You have to now enhance it with fake eye color, fake hair color, fake tans, plastic surgery, implants, bright clothes, accessories, all sorts of things.

Doesn't this city and our country as a whole, place a completely unrealistic expectation and standard for beauty?

Hell, Madonna and older celebrities look MUCH MUCH better at 50, than many average 50 year olds, yet they still get criticized and called old, over, saggy, wrinkled, etc.

Even Britney, Lindsay, Paris, and other mid 20 year olds, get criticized.

So basically, why does our country promote such unrealistic ideals of beauty and aging?

Especially Hollywood.

Everything that you wrote is so true!! I have lived in LA for the last 10 years and people here go way too far to look "great". If you don't fit in, and happen to be not "perfect", or I should say you have not spent lots of money to change the way you look then you really just don't fit in here. People here are just fake and it seems to me that "fake" is really in! You have to have the fake breast, be a size 0 and if you are over 40 forget it! But, we don't have to buy into it and I would never change anything about myself to fit in here. I take good care of myself, but I would never go under the knife to make myself look like too many of the girls and women here look.

Absolutely! Why do you think there are so many people with eating disorders?! (among other things)

Does Hollywood/Los Angeles, and America place unrealistic standards on beauty and age?

Yes they do but we shouldn't put all the blame on that. Anybody can choose to ignore this and be independent, don't fall for it. I choose to go my own way.
